On the banks of Urubamba River, surrounded by the breathtaking Peruvian Andes lays Sacred Valley of the Incas (Valle Sagrado de los Incas), an important agricultural, spiritual, and political center of the Incas, that now encompasses some of the most important South American archeological sites. Being the starting point for many famous trekking routes, it stretches about 100 km between Cusco, the former capital of the Inca Empire and Machu Picchu Citadel.
From bargaining in traditional markets to wandering around small pitoresque villages, the most popular budget-friendly attractions include: • Pisac National Archeological Park • Pisac Sunday Market • The Archaeological Complex of Ollantaytambo • Cochahuasi Animal Sanctuary • Maras • Moray • Chinchero
BEST TIME TO VISIT
Nestled between Cusco and Machu Picchu, the Sacred Valley feels like a hidden world where time has slowed down. The best time to visit is during the dry season, from May to September, when the skies are clear, Pisac’s market bursting with color, Ollantaytambo’s stone ruins glowing at golden hour, and the mountains standing tall like silent storytellers.
The wet season, from November to March, brings frequent rains that turn the valley a vivid green. There are fewer tourists, but the weather can be unpredictable, so be prepared for muddy paths and cloudier views.

Machu Picchu | The “Lost City of the Incas”
Surrounded by the Peruvian Andes, at 2430m altitude above Urubamba River stands Machu Picchu, one of the most spectacular archaeological discoveries in Latin America. The Incas built the citadel around 1450, and abandoned it a century later at the time of the Spanish Conquest. Although its exact purpose still remains unknown, Machu Picchu was most likely a religious sanctuary and a residential area for the ruler Pachacuti. Considered a symbol of the Inca culture, architecture, and engineering, in 2007 the "Lost City of the Incas" was declared one of the 7 Wonders of the Modern World.
